Back-to-back meetings, notifications, and pressure to respond can make a workday feel relentless. A short pause will not change every demand, but it can make the next transition less automatic.

Many people benefit from breaks, movement, and moments of visual rest. The useful aim is not to optimize every minute; it is to create a little recovery where you can.

Three Resets You Can Do at Your Desk

The Eye Pause (30s)

When you can, look away from your screen and focus on something farther away for 30 seconds. If your eyes feel strained or you have persistent vision changes, consult an eye-care professional.

The Breath Anchor (60s)

Place a hand on your belly if that feels comfortable. Try a gentle breath in and a slightly longer breath out for one minute. Stop if breath counting makes you light-headed or tense.

The Sensory Check-In (60s)

Without judgment, notice:

  • One thing you can see (not a screen)
  • One thing you can hear
  • One physical sensation (feet on floor, back against chair)

That’s it. That’s the whole practice. You’re not trying to achieve a state of enlightenment. You’re just returning to your body long enough to remember you exist beyond the task list.
